Winter Foot Care: Keeping Your Feet Healthy!

Winter can be tough on your feet. Cold weather, dry air and enclosed footwear often lead to cracked heels, dry skin and fungal infections. A few simple habits can help keep your feet healthy and comfortable all season long.
Moisturise Every Day

One of the best things you can do is apply a quality foot moisturiser or urea-based heel balm every day, especially after showering. Focus on the heels and soles, but avoid applying cream between your toes, as excess moisture can encourage fungal infections.
Keep Feet Clean and Dry
Wash your feet in lukewarm water rather than very hot water, which can dry out your skin. After washing, dry your feet thoroughly, paying particular attention to the spaces between your toes.
Choose the Right Socks and Shoes
Opt for moisture-wicking wool or thermal socks instead of cotton, which tends to hold moisture. Rotate your shoes or boots to allow them to dry completely between wears, and make sure your footwear isn't too tight, as this can restrict circulation and leave your feet feeling colder.
Keep Your Circulation Moving
If your feet feel cold, avoid placing them directly on heaters, hot water bottles or electric blankets, as reduced sensation can increase the risk of burns. Instead, stay active, stretch regularly and wiggle your toes throughout the day to improve circulation naturally.
Check Your Feet Regularly

Take a few moments each week to inspect your feet for cracked skin, blisters, redness or swelling. Avoid trying to cut away hard skin or using medicated corn pads without professional advice, as these can cause injuries and infections.
