Not all orthotics are created equal 👣

The blue sample is a standard size 9. The black outline shows what we can produce on our on-site custom milling machine for a 4E width foot.

Standard devices often don’t provide enough width, support, or control for broader feet. Custom orthotics allow us to match the true shape of the foot and shoe for better comfort, fit, and function. A better fit leads to better outcomes.

Every foot is different, and your orthotics should be too.

As a podiatrist, one of the most important back-to-school checks I recommend is proper footwear. Growing feet need the right support to stay healthy, comfortable and injury-free throughout the school year.

✔️ Look for good arch support and a firm heel counter
✔️ Flexible at the front, supportive through the midfoot
✔️ Avoid hand-me-downs — every child’s feet are different
Ill-fitting or worn-out shoes can contribute to foot pain, poor posture and fatigue, which can affect your child’s confidence and concentration at school.

AGES & STAGES - DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN’S FEET
Sometimes children walk with their feet pointed inwards (in-toeing) or outwards (out-toeing). In most cases, these variations in walking are normal. Most children will grow out of these walking styles by the age of two; however, it can sometimes take until the age of 12.
Due to rapid growth in length and width while young, frequent changes in the size of shoes and socks may be necessary. Do a size check at least every one to three months up to the age of three, every four months up to the age of five, and every six months from five years onward.
